India General Elections Results 2019

Around 90 crore Indian citizens voted in the world's biggest democratic exercise - The General Elections of India 2019. The elections were held in seven phases starting from 11th April to 19th May 2019 to form the 17th Lok Sabha (House of the People). The results were declared on 23rd May 2019.

Total Seats: 543 ( 272 required for majority)

BJP : 303

NDA: 348 ( National Democratic Alliance)

Congress: 52

UPA: 87 ( United Progressive Alliance)

DMK: 23

AITC: 22

YSRCP: 22

Others: 121


Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP to a massive win, slaying the opposition led by Congress along with 22 other parties. BJP's high powered campaign was conducted on the themes of National Pride, Hindutva, Welfare schemes for the poor like Electricity, Toilets, Gas connections, Financial schemes, Inflation and Curruption checked, PM Narendra Modi's hard work, honesty, sincerity and guts that made him world's most popular democratic leader, Air strike on Balkot were some of reasons being attributed to the massive victory.


The opposition's allegations over Rafle deal, Issue of unemployment, Farm distress, Congress's "Chaukidar chor hai" campaign found no resonance and was effectively countered by "Mein bhi Chaukidar", Use of the word "Secular" by the elite for the politics of appeasement, cast and dynasty found no takers. Proponents of "Hindu terror" and "azaadi" also got defeated by people's mandate.
